Roland Tec has had work produced and/or screened throughout the U.S. and at film festivals in Europe, South America, Africa, Australia and the Middle East. Prior to moving to NYC, Tec served as Artistic Director of Boston's New Opera Theatre Ensemble, leading a core ensemble of singer-actors in the development and performance of new operas mounted in the most unlikely venues. NOTE operas premiered in the stacks of the Boston Public Library, in the Danco Furniture Showroom, and in the Charles Hayden Planetarium.

His film producer credits include Mira Nair's MONSOON WEDDING and Edward Zwick's DEFIANCE. Two feature films that he wrote, directed and produced, ALL THE RAGE and WE PEDAL UPHILL, were released theatrically in the U.S. before enjoying digital distribution.

He has taught at Harvard University, Brandeis University and at numerous festivals and workshops at home and abroad. During his tenure at the Dramatists Guild of America, Tec conceived, spearheaded and directed several new educational workshops which he brought to members throughout the country.

He has been a fellow at the Byrdcliffe Artists Colony and at the MacDowell Colony. Mr. Tec is a proud member of the Dramatists Guild of America, American Composers Forum, the Producers Guild of America and is a New York Theatre Workshop Usual Suspect.

Roland Tec is an Assistant Professor in the MFA Program in Playwriting at Hollins University and is a Dramatists Guild Institute faculty member. He's frequently invited to offer his groundbreaking workshops to artists nationwide.

I worked with Roland Tec during New Opera Theatre Ensemble’s residency at Harvard. As a singer-actor, it was fascinating to open our improvisational developmental process to lay people. Roland’s wildly imaginative approach helped break down barriers to opera for audiences who otherwise might never have been inclined to consider music-theatre of any kind. It was a great wild ride performing as a NOTE ensemble member, something I’m still grateful for having experienced to this day.

Roland has directed me in his film, WE PEDAL UPHILL, and in two Off-Broadway plays. He’s a fantastic director and writer. I’m an actor and he’s simply wonderful to work with. He knows what he’s looking for in the scene, yet allows the actor much freedom and creativity.
